Mazzy Star

December 17, 2009

When I was young, before i have any real memories, in 1990 Mazzy Star put out their first album “She Hangs Brightly”.  At the time this was one of my sisters favorite albums.  When my sister would put me to sleep she would take my Alf tape out of my tape player and throw on this album and sing me to sleep.  I’m really happy about the awesome musical influences my family had on me as a child.

Here is a bit of my childhood: Mazzy Star’s She Hangs Brightly

Thee Oh Sees

December 16, 2009

So I have been listening to a lot of Thee Oh Sees lately.  They’re a band from San Fransisco fronted by John Dwyer, the dude from the coachwhips.  Thee Oh Sees are an experimental, garage rock, noise, psychedelic, whateverwhatever band.  They are awesome! They’re pretty influenced by 60 San Fransisco psychedelic bands like Jefferson Airplane and Big Brother and the Holding Company and such bands as that.

They Released a bunch of stuff this year, Help, Dog Poison, and Zork’s Tape Bruise.  I like all of them pretty equally, but Zork’s Tape Bruise is probably my favorite (maybe?). It is also the hardest to take in if you have never listened to Thee Oh Sees.  So, I will share with you Dog Poison because its a pretty easy listen. Enjoy!

Also this is an awesome live version of Block of Ice which is off their album The Master’s Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In

Hope you like it.

Lou Reed Transformer

December 14, 2009

So I just wrote all this stuff and then it all got deleted, so this post wont be as good as what no one got to see before. Bummer.

So I know I already posted a Lou Reed video but I’m on a bit of a kick.  Here is Lou Reeds second album Transformer, my personal favorite of his solo stuff, and I think most people feel the same way.

*this isn’t my mediafire, mine wouldn’t let me upload things for some reason

Stand out tracks are Vicious, Satellite of Love, and Perfect Day

The video I posted for Perfect Day is kind of different, I don’t know how much I really like it, but its cool because its Elvis Costello and Lou Reed.

Enjoy!

Olde School Barleywine

December 7, 2009

After work I had a couple beers (only way I could have made this decision) and decided to splurge and spend the money on the Dog Fish Head Olde School Barleywine. I’m super excited to crack this open once I finish my last class of the semester on wednesday.

15 % alcohol and a whopping 7 dollars and some odd cents.

ariel pink

December 7, 2009

Here’s a video by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. The songs called Are you Gonna Look After my Boys?

When i first heard Ariel Pink I couldn’t stand him.  Probably the biggest reason I didn’t like it was because my friend laura introduced his music to me.  We dated for awhile then after that ended I was still into her but she had a boyfriend.  So I just couldn’t like it because she showed it to me!  immature subtleties.  Anyway, now I can’t get enough of Ariel Pink and also am not still in love with laura! win win situation.

Before I bore you with my life here is the video. (this was also my first exposure to Ariel Pink)

Ariel Pink creates awesome lo fi songs influenced by many drugs, in fact, a lot of his songs are about drugs! fun stuff!  I’ve never seen ariel pink, but I  have heard his music doesn’t transfer very well to a live show, and I can’t really imagine it would.

Are you Gonna Look After my Boys? is on his album scared famous, so if you enjoy it download the album or maybe even buy it!  Honestly though, I would start with his album “the doldrums” first before going onto his other stuff.

If anyone knows how I can upload music from my hard drive onto wordpress and can teach me that would be awesome.  I didn’t even want to play that video but I couldn’t find the song I wanted on youtube, which is by the way West Coast Calamities (I want a chick that puts up with my shit and puts out are lyrics from that song so that would have been nice).  I feel like I’m starting to ramble, its late and im tired.

Please leave me feedback so I know if people are actually reading this…not that theres much here yet but, ya know…
